Andrew Jackson, a Negro New York pediatrician has a dream.
He wants to take a wife and return to his native land, Jamaica, to find his roots and open a private practice. He falls in
love with a Caucasian clinic nurse, the woman with whom he wants to share his life and bear his children, but she's hesitant
to cross that racial barrier.
Maggie Donovan, an Irish lassie named after her father's nanny, also has a dream --to
get far away from Brooklyn's government housing project and her alcoholic mother, and to find her Mr. Right. She falls in
love with Doctor Jackson and they set a wedding date, much to her mother's disapproval. But because of cancer surgery, she
is barren and calls off the wedding. That is, until an abandoned baby is brought into the clinic. She does the unthinkable
and agrees to marry Andrew when they initiate the adoption proceedings for baby Angela.
What shocking event takes
place to make Maggie's mother give her daughter her heartfelt blessings for marriage?
